Polydesmida: Paradoxosomatidae: Dicranogonus
Dicranogonus pix Jeekel, 1982
This species is one of the most unusual in the Australian millipede fauna. Dicranogonus pix is found in eastern Victoria, the Furneaux Group and northeast Tasmania. In the northern part of its range, D. pix has clearly defined, narrow paranota. In the southern part, the paranota are missing or represented by a slight bulge. The dividing line for with-paranota and without-paranota populations of D. pix is the gap between the Kent and Furneaux Groups in Bass Strait.
In the Furneaux Group and on mainland Tasmania, D. pix grows to ca 20 mm long and is medium to dark reddish brown. Males are distinctly more slender than females. Like Notodesmus scotius, D. pix is abundant in northeast coastal heathlands.
Dicranogonus pix is currently classified in subfamily Australiosomatinae, tribe Antichiropodini.
